Why We Deliberately Only Cover Scotland and the North of England

Ask most waste companies where they operate and the answer is "everywhere". Ask us, and you get a line on the map: all of Scotland, and England down to Carlisle, Penrith and Newcastle. That boundary is deliberate — and it is one of the main reasons bodyshops stay with us.
The map was drawn on purpose
Eco Auto Solutions is based in Hamilton, Scotland, and our SEPA waste carrier registration (WCR/R/3021810) is valid across Scotland, England and Wales. Legally, we could run collections the length of the country tomorrow. We choose not to.
The reason is simple: a collection service is only worth having if the collections actually happen. Every postcode we add to the coverage map stretches routes, drivers and vehicles a little further, and every stretch makes a missed visit a little more likely. By keeping our territory to Scotland and the North of England, we keep every route within reach of our Hamilton base — and that means every schedule we agree is a schedule we can keep.
What a missed collection actually costs a bodyshop
If you run a bodyshop or accident repair centre, you know what happens when the waste contractor doesn't turn up. Bumpers stack against the wall, liners and trims spill out of overflowing bins, and the pile becomes a problem you now have to manage on top of the repairs you are paid to do.
Under the duty of care in section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which applies in Scotland, your responsibility for controlled waste doesn't pause because a lorry failed to arrive. Keeping waste stored properly and moving through a registered carrier is your obligation as the producer. A reliable, regular bumper collection isn't a nice-to-have; it is how you stay on the right side of that duty without thinking about it every week.
That is the standard we built the business around. Collections run weekly, fortnightly, monthly or as one-offs — whatever matches your output — with no minimum volume, and we supply the bins, cages and bumper racking so material is contained between visits. At every collection, an electronic waste transfer note (eWTN) is issued before the driver leaves, giving you the paperwork for your records on the spot.
Density beats distance
There is a second advantage to a compact territory: route density. Because our customers are concentrated across Scotland and the North of England rather than scattered nationwide, our vehicles spend their time collecting rather than travelling. That density is what lets us handle serious volume — our processing capacity runs to more than 3,000 bumpers a day — while still fitting in a one-off clearance or adjusting a schedule when a workshop gets busy.
It also means one visit can cover every stream. The same collection that takes your bumpers can take headlights, alloy wheels and the full range of hard and soft plastics — wheel arch liners, side skirts, trims and grilles — through our plastic waste collection service. Fewer contractors on site, fewer transfer notes to chase, one schedule to remember.
A Scottish operator under Scotland's regulator
For Scottish garages there is a further point worth making. SEPA is Scotland's environmental regulator, and we are registered with SEPA as a waste carrier — a registration anyone can verify on SEPA's public register in a couple of minutes. When your waste is collected by a Hamilton-based, SEPA-registered business, your compliance chain stays local and checkable. We'd encourage every workshop to run that check on any carrier, including us.
Where the boundary ends, the value begins
Keeping the map tight doesn't just protect the schedule — it protects what happens after collection. Everything we collect is stripped of unwanted components by hand and granulated into PP regrind that goes straight back into plastics manufacturing, with nothing sent to landfill. Good-condition bumpers are refurbished and resold as used parts, and unused genuine OEM stock we buy from garages is reintroduced to the industry through our EAS Parts store. Recycling, reusing, reinventing value — all of it depends on collections arriving when they are supposed to.
If your workshop sits anywhere in Scotland, or in England down to Carlisle, Penrith or Newcastle, you are inside the line we drew — and that line exists for you. Get in touch or call us on 0141 260 6602 to set up a schedule that will actually be kept.
FAQ
Do you collect south of Newcastle, Carlisle or Penrith? No. Our coverage deliberately stops there so that every scheduled collection within our territory can be kept reliably. Although our registration is valid across Scotland, England and Wales, we limit our routes by choice.
Is there a minimum volume for collections? No. We collect on weekly, fortnightly, monthly or one-off schedules with no minimum volume, and we supply bins, cages and bumper racking to contain material between visits.
What proof do I get that my waste was collected properly? An electronic waste transfer note (eWTN) is issued at every collection before the driver leaves. Keeping waste transfer notes for two years is the standard to work to under your duty of care.
How can I check you're a registered waste carrier? Our SEPA registration is WCR/R/3021810, and it can be verified on SEPA's public register. We recommend verifying any carrier before they touch your waste.
